Ethical Cyclewear
We are the world’s first Fair Trade and eco-friendly cyclewear company, here’s why…
- We use natural, organic and recycled materials wherever possible
- VELECO workers receive double the minimum local wage
- We pay a 15% Fair Trade premium on every garment made, which supports health and welfare projects for our workers and their families in Pakistan
- Our factory is WRAP Certified (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production)
- Wherever possible we use sea freight
Other ways we’re ethical and eco…
- We all ride into work, we use a bike trailer but sometimes we do have to use cars and vans to move things round
- Our promotional material is always made from eco-friendly materials
- We use Triodos Bank, they are a very nice ethical bank who only lend money to people and organisations who are trying to make the world a better place. They also offer you ethical investment opportunities, so why not visit their website www.triodos.co.uk
- Eco Web Hosting - our website is eco-hosted, which provides a carbon-positive alternative to standard website hosting services. Eco Web Hosting has planted over 300 English Oak trees which, at present, absorb more than three times the carbon produced by their servers, aiming to counteract the 3-4% of the world's carbon emissions, and 10% of the UK's energy bill that ICT equipment currently accounts for. For more information about Eco Web Hosting and the services they offer please visit their green web hosting and 100% carbon neutral hosting website
- We even use an ethical and green insurance broker Naturesave they are very nice people visit their website here www.naturesave.co.uk
- We recycle all materials that we can in our office and warehouse
The future…
There’s always room for improvement and we have some big plans, so here’s just a small taste of what we’d like to do:
- Develop a sustainable and lasting tree planting project in Pakistan
- Further develop our Fair Trade projects including micro-credit loans
- We would like to invest in sustainable alternative power sources for our manufacturing partners
- Working with mills to develop ground-breaking sustainable and organic textiles
- Supporting additional educational and social projects in Pakistan
- Working on zero carbon shipping with partners like the Green Heart Project
- Supporting charity / eco bike rides and riders with sponsorship
- We plan to get involved and support cycling charities and social businesses in the UK and overseas
